Continued Price Pressure Will not Compromise CD and DVD Quality

Blu-ray Disc, CD, CD DVD BD Video Topics, DVD, DVD Copycat News, Film, Music and Audio, Press Releases, Tips No Comments »

This has been a very interesting year so far for DVD Copycat. In Jan of 09, we saw one of the worst months we have ever had. This seemed to be an industry wide experience as clients unsure of the economic downturn had a wait and see approach for new budgets in 09. After that things picked up to a reasonable level as the Industry Giants started promoting very agressive price reductions. Our current challenge has been how to continue our high level of service while going through the pains of shrinking margins. We are steadfastly commited to the quality of our DVD and CD Duplication and Replication products and even more commited to maintaining our level of customer service. Personalized service is just words these days in marketing campaigns. Our goal is to be able to provide a level of service that makes a genuine positive impact on our client base. Over the second quarter of 09 DVD Copycat has seen some good growth which I believe is a good indicator that service and attention is still valued, even in this economy.
Our pledge to our customer base is to alway preserve our standards of quality to make a positive impact on their projects while trying to stay within reasonable industry norms for pricing on DVD, CD and Blu-ray Replication and Duplication.

Chosing Quality over Low Cost Pays Off

CD, CD DVD BD Video Topics, DVD, DVD Copycat News, Press Releases No Comments »

At DVD Copycat we have always put our focus on quality over price.  We are always looking to improve our service level to our customers and provide the best possible quality products to service our clients needs.  Even in these tough economic times we have seen sales increases over last years numbers.

I strongly believe that choosing a quality model over price will always give the strongest long term benefits to both our clients and our bottom line.  When choosing price over quality, there is a cascade effect on all services and products.  You cannot provide both quality and low cost.

As I have developed this business we have chosen to try to avoid the “Low Cost Provider” business model.  It is my business philosophy to provide and instill trust, expertise and quality mindedness in our workforce and customer relationships.

I have chosen this philosophy because I have found with the “Low Cost Provider” model what eventually happens to a business is that customer service and commitment suffers. As margins are cut, so is quality of work staff, enthusiasm and moral.  Carelessness and poor work result.  I’ve seen this in our industry with many companies over the past 6 years.

At DVD Copycat, we try to maintain standards of service and expertise well above the industry norm.

My point to all this is that DVD Copycat is poised to add value to our clients.  We can chase down the things you need and make sure you a being taken care of beyond the lowest common denominator of cost.  That is what I have organized our business to do.

So when choosing to Replicate your DVDs, CDs or Blu-ray Disc, you can count on DVD Copycat to provide you with the best quality out there within a reasonable cost.

Burn a Reliable Audio CD-R

CD, DVD, DVD Copycat News, Film, Music and Audio, Uncategorized No Comments »

There are a couple of simple things to remember and implement when burning an audio CD.  The first is to alway use good blank CD-R media.  You usually get what you pay for, so buck up for some good media.  Sony, Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, are three of the best.

Secondly, most people don’t know this, but when you burn an audio CD there is no self correction to the data writing.  This means that you have to be careful not to burn your discs while you have too many applications running.  Other applications will eat up memory and potentially cause a hiccup in you disc.  Also, you should burn your discs at 16X.  If you burn them at the default 48X or 52X you may burn them faster, but you run the risk of having a data error on you disc.

Following these simple steps should ensure that you have a robust, quality CD to play time and time again.

Tough Economic Times Makes Blu-ray Adoption More Difficult

Blu-ray Disc, DVD, DVD Copycat News, Uncategorized No Comments »

Well it seems like there has been very little good news on the economic front these days. I personally have many friends and colleagues that are feeling the direct impact of this economic downturn.
With pocketbooks shrinking, it makes it even more difficult for the average consumer to go out and buy that new blu-ray player. Even though I have been seeing specials for Blu-ray Disc (BD) player under $200 dollars, I will be curious to see how many consumers have the extra money to buck up for the latest and greatest in Hi-def video.
I personally like Blu-ray. We have a player in our home and I enjoy the better picture, and just as importantly ,I get a bit of a personal rush when I know its the newest thing for Video. When our Netflix comes in the mail and it has a blu-ray disc in it, it is a bit more fun.
That being said, I believe this Christmas Season will be very tell-tale for the future of Blu-ray Disc.

Blu-ray AACS Liscenscing Too Expensive, Preventing Growth

Blu-ray Disc, DVD, DVD Copycat News, Uncategorized 5 Comments »

Video and Film professionals who wish to shoot and publish their projects in Hi-Def have, to this point, been frustrated with the prohibitive costs associated with manufacturing a Blu-ray Disc.

Say an average filmmaker or video professional wants to make 1000 copies of their film and put it on Blu-ray(BD) Disc.   Unlike DVD, they will have to pay a mandatory up front AACS licensing fee.  Going rate is about $1500 to $2000 plus an ongoing royalty.

After paying this mandatory licensing fee, it will cost approximately $3.5 per unit to manufacture a Blu-ray package that is ready for distribution and sale.

For a typical standard definition DVD, there is no mandatory licensing fee for encryption and the cost would be approximately $1.49 per unit to manufacture.

Comparing these costs, a filmmaker  will have to pay an extra 266% over the cost of a standard DVD to publish on Blu-ray Disc.  Almost every client I have spoken to about these costs has declined to go Blu-ray.

As economies of scale take effect, the costs to manufacture Blu-ray Discs will likely come down and eventually be similar to DVD costs.  However, the real barrier to smaller companies adopting hi-def is the mandatory AACS licensing fee imposed by AACS Licensing Administrator, LLC.  This additional $1500-$2000 (plus per piece royalty), will likely be too expensive for most, and is just one more barrier to widespread adoption of Blu-ray Disc technology.

My hopes are that AACS Licensing Administrator, LLC. drops the mandatory licensing fee for smaller Blu-ray Disc orders.  If they do not, I suspect that an entire market of filmmakers and video professionals will be choosing DVD over Blu-ray Disc for the distribution of their projects.

Burnable Blu-Ray Disc(BD) is in Demand

Blu-ray Disc, CD, DVD, DVD Copycat News No Comments »

Despite the fact that many Blu-Ray Disc set top players do not work with burnable Blu-Ray(BD-R) discs yet, the market is clamoring for Blu-Ray Discs(BD) in low volume.

We are receiving regular requests for BD-R(Blu-Ray Writable) Discs and have accomodated our clients by accelerating out adaptation to low volume Blu-Ray Duplication.

DVD Copycat has now released and offering of BD-R discs as a compliment to our regular line of CD DVD duplication and replication products.
